Phones, switching and transmission systems. Founded 1895 as Northern Electric and Manufacturing Company Limited, in 1914 it merged with Imperial Cable to become Northern Electric. In 1976 the name was changed to Northern Telecom, and changed again in 1995 to Nortel, in 1998 to Nortel Networks.
