COMPANY

Paper and chemicals company, founded 1888 by William Luke as the Piedmont Pulp and Paper Company. It changed name in 1889 to the West Virginia Paper Company and in 1969 to Westvaco. Its headquarters was relocated to New York City in 1929 and later to Stamford, Connecticut. The company merged with Mead in 2002 to form MeadWestvaco.
