Spinoff of AT&T in 2001. It is presently controlled by John Malone, who owns a majority interest. Liberty Media is the owner of QVC, and is a stakeholder in IAC/InterActiveCorp, Expedia, Encore/Starz cable channels, and half of the Game Show Network. As of 2007, it is acquiring control of DirecTV from News Corporation. Several tracking stocks exist for subsidiaries (most prominently LINTA and LINTB) and the symbol L seems reserved on the NYSE for an eventual listing.
