COMPANY

Cinema chain founded 1920, when vaudeville performer Ed Durwood (1886-1960) and his brothers purchased the Regent Theatre in downtown Kansas City, MO. With the addition of more locations, the business was renamed Durwood Theatres; then American Multi-Cinema Theatres, and finally AMC Entertainment. Merged with Loews Cineplex Entertainment in 2006. Sold to Dalian Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate, for $2.6B in 2012. Owns and operates about 350 theaters, mostly in North America, with a total of 5,034 screens.
