SCO Group

COMPANY

Founded 1979 by Doug and Larry Michels. Their original product was called Xenix, a poor variant of System V Unix for the Intel platform, licensed to them by Microsoft. SCO went public in 1993. The company sold their Unix products to Caldera in 2001, and that company in August 2002 adopted the name "SCO Group." The original SCO was renamed Tarantella.

At present, the SCO Group appears to base its future revenue model on baseless lawsuits against IBM and other players in the open source software field who platform portions of their businesses on Linux.
