Young Irish physician Dr. Peter Blood gives medical aid to a rebel fighting James II, receiving a sentence of death for treason. Commuted to slavery, he is sent to Port Royal where he escapes bondage to become Captain Blood, notorious pirate of the Caribbean. Errol Flynn's first major role, originally intended for Robert Donat; the film made both Flynn and Olivia de Havilland stars. Backed with an excellent Korngold score. Received five Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Remake of Captain Blood (1924).
