A theater director's grand vision for an upcoming stage play leads to his mental and physical disintegration.

ABSTRACT
Caden Cotard, a gifted theater director hailing from Schenectady, New York, leaves his upstate career behind in favor of the epic and elaborate stage called Broadway. Moved by a generous MacArthur grant and unwavering dedication to absolute realism, the ever-ambitious Caden arranges an ensemble cast inside a replica of Manhattan located in a sprawling New York City warehouse, crafting an empire centered around a "celebration of the mundane" as his existence in the real world begins to implode in decidedly tragic fashion.
