A past-his-prime movie star forms a connection with a wayward young woman in an unlikely locale.

Bob Harris, a once-venerable American actor struggling to sustain the last gasps of his bygone relevance, arrives in Tokyo to film a well-paying commercial for Suntory whiskey. Suffering through a mid-life crisis brought about by a languid marriage and mind-numbing complacency with his standard of living, Bob happens upon Charlotte, the wife of a photographer many years his junior mired in a similar state of affairs, striking up an unlikely connection with her dampened by their respective inevitable departures from Japan's foremost metropolis.
