An ordinary pet chameleon stranded in the Mojave Desert happens upon an Old West outpost in need of a new sheriff.

ABSTRACT
Left alone in the Mojave Desert after his terrarium accidentally falls out of his owners' car, a pet chameleon wanders into an Old West town inhabited by desert animals called Dirt after a surreal experience involving an armadillo named Roadkill and a desert iguana named Beans. Eager to fit in, the wayward lizard introduces himself as a rough-and-tumble drifter named Rango, fashioning himself as a fearsome lawman of sorts after learning that the town is plagued by crime and desperately seeking a tough sheriff to restore and enforce law and order.
