A Japanese city clerk finds himself diagnosed with stomach cancer and only 6 months to live; with his remaining time Watanabe tries to transcend 30 years of meaningless paper shuffling by manipulating the wheels of bureaucracy to build a small park for children. An outlier among his films, certainly one of Kurosawa's most personal creations.
