Les Misérables (3-Apr-1935)

Director: Richard Boleslawsky

Writer: W. P. Lipscomb

From novel by: Victor Hugo

Producer: Darryl F. Zanuck

Keywords: Drama

A parolee convicted of stealing a loaf of bread is relentlessly hounded for 20 years by a French police inspector in the early 19th century. March and Laughton both turn in exceptionally fine performances in what has been long considered the best adaptation of Victor Hugo's 1300 page novel, which by its nature must be highly abridged to appear on film.
