A Marine serving in World War II works to protect a Navajo "code talker" comrade using his language as a unique cipher.

ABSTRACT
Joe Enders, a marine injured and traumatized following an ambush that killed every other member of his Solomon Islands platoon, is cleared to return to action by Rita, a military nurse sympathetic to his desire to fight. Joe's newest mission sees him tasked with the important job of protecting Navajo soldier and "code talker" Ben Yahzee during World War II's invasion of Saipan, powering through obstacles including institutionalized racism and the harsh realities of war to preserve Ben's integrity as an indispensable asset and, after conflict's end, war hero.
