REVIEWS Review by Wendy Whiteside (posted on 3-May-2007) I personally LOVED this movie. When I was a little girl my Dad took me to see it 5 times and we sat through it twice each time. What a Dad! I've been looking all over to own it and saw it once on Television 36 years ago.
I love the music, the color, the actors and the story. Dan Dailey was especially good in this movie. His acting and dancing were terrific. I felt he never was recognized enough for his talent.
After seeing it as an adult I agree it is a little corny. But they don't make the movies like that anymore. Darn!
Review by anonymous (posted on 4-Mar-2006) I first saw this movie
when I was a teenager, and I liked it very much. I don't think I've
seen it since--my brother and I have been searching for the song, "What
Did I Do?" for several years and finally found the reference to the
movie. Now, we'd like to get the sheet music or a video of the film. I
remember Dan Dailey's performance in particular, possibly his best
screen performance. I don't remember much about Betty Grable, but she
was probably like the Betty Grable in her other movies. June Havoc was
the best female actor in the film. I don't know which of above two sang
"What Did I Do?" I'd love to see the movie again.
Review by anonymous (posted on 4-Aug-2006) I saw this movie when
it first was released, and so did my two brothers. We all thought it
was great, and we loved the music. I can't remember many details of the
plot, but all three of us remember the song, "What Did I Do?" sung by
one of the actresses who obviously has been done wrong to. As a matter
of fact, all three of us remember all the words to the song even though
we haven't heard it since the movie came out. One of my brothers and I
spent a couple years, searching for the movie which featured this song.
It almost drove us nuts. Now, I'd give my right arm for a copy of the
sheet music of "What Did I Do." All the songs from all the wonderful
40s and 50s musicals were published, and surely this one was, too. Can
any one help? I loved Dan Dailey and Betty Grable in the film. How
could you go wrong with stars like these? Yes, compared to today's
sophisticated films, "When My Baby Smiles at Me" seems naive and
simplistic, but, hey, what's the matter with that?
Do you know something we don't?
