ABSTRACT
The curious case of Sixto Rodriguez, an American guitarist and Bob Dylan-esque songwriter whose wild amounts of fame in South Africa far outstripped anything he'd ever attained in his native country, is explored in Searching for Sugar Man, a documentary that follows obsessed fans Craig Bartholomew Strydom and Stephen Segerman's work to investigate rumors that their mysterious idol had killed himself during a concert in the 1970s. Released to widespread critical acclaim, Searching for Sugar Man led to a minor renewal of public interest in Rodriguez's life and body of work around the world. Won an Academy Award for Best Documentary.
