The Cooler (17-Jan-2003)

Director: Wayne Kramer

Writers: Frank Hannah; Wayne Kramer

Music by: Mark Isham

Producers: Sean Furst; Michael Pierce

Keywords: Romantic Drama, Gambling, Las Vegas

An unlucky Las Vegas gambler breaks his "curse" by falling in love, drawing the ire of mob-connected casino proprietors.

Bernie Lootz is a perpetually hopeless gambler -- or, in gaming parlance, a "cooler" -- employed by mob-connected Shangri-La casino manager Shelly Kaplow to spread his bad luck to would-be high rollers. Bernie falls in love with cocktail waitress Natalie Belisario, seemingly bringing an end to his run of futility; this proves to be just the start of his problems, however, as Shelly and his violent superiors appear intent on keeping their "cooler" in action.
