Nev Schulman, an aspiring young photographer living with film-making brother Ariel in New York City, embarks on an online relationship with an attractive young woman named Megan from Gladstone, Michigan after meeting her supposed half-sister on Facebook. What follows is a strange tale of romantic deceit and betrayal all conveniently captured on film that resulted in positive reviews from critics, a show on MTV, and a lasting impact on America's cultural lexicon in the form of "catfishing" coming to exist as slang for a dishonest online romance.
