Get Rich or Die Tryin' (9-Nov-2005)

Director: Jim Sheridan

Writer: Terence Winter

Keywords: Drama

Semi-autobiographical film tells the tale of an impoverished rapper's rise to stardom.

ABSTRACT
Marcus, a talented young man with a distinct knack for spinning stories, shifts gears from dreams of becoming a rapper to drug dealing after his mother -- also a dealer -- is murdered. Unwilling to let his dream drift away, Marcus brings his focus back to rapping with the same sort of hustle-or-die intensity he learned from dealing, ultimately forced to set himself straight and focus on the important things in his life after an enemy guns him down outside of his home. Inspired by 8 Mile, Get Rich or Die Tryin' is the semi-autobiographical story of rapper 50 Cent's rise to fame, though it was not as critically nor commercially successful as the film it sought to emulate.
