ABSTRACT
Wladyslaw Szpilman, a brilliant pianist and Polish Jew, acts as a firsthand witness to Nazi domination of his homeland and country of residence during World War II as Hitler's regime begins to place restrictions on the city of Warsaw. Escaping deportation as his family is rounded up and sent to a labor camp, Wladyslaw turns survival into an art form by living amongst Warsaw's decimated ruins and masterfully avoiding capture.
