A Chinese-Cambodian woman mourning the loss of her son connects with his gay lover over their memories of his existence.

Junn, an elderly Chinese-Cambodian woman living in the United Kingdom, mourns the death of only son Kai, whom she'd depended on for immeasurable emotional support in her advanced age. Kai's gay lover, Richard, a well-intentioned young man similarly devastated by his death, enters the picture as a stranger in Junn's world; initial troubles springing forth from their language-based disconnect are smoothed over with the hiring of translator Vann, a woman who helps the pair break through their cultural barriers to share wonderful memories of Kai's time on Earth.
