Love and Death (10-Jun-1975)

Director: Woody Allen

Writer: Woody Allen

Music by: Sergei Prokofiev

Producer: Charles H. Joffe

Keywords: Comedy, Assassination, Russia

A cowardly neurotic enlists in the Russian Army as the love of his life, his cousin Sonja, marries a herring merchant. He somehow becomes a war hero; after his cousin is widowed they marry and concoct plans to kill Napoleon. Spoof not just of War and Peace but Russian literature in general, plus Bergman, Eisenstein, and the French, wrapped up as an homage to Bob Hope and Groucho Marx. Rapid-fire wit; one of Allen's best comedies.
