After Missouri farmer Josey Wales' family is slaughtered by Union irregulars in the waning days of the Civil War, he joins a Confederate guerrilla unit. The end of the war brings an offer of amnesty, but it is a ruse leading to the massacre of his unit; only two survive. Wales remains a fugitive, sought by both the U.S. Army and a parade of bounty hunters. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.
