Battle Cry (2-Feb-1955)

Director: Raoul Walsh

Writer: Leon Uris

From novel: Battle Cry by Leon Uris

Original Music by: Max Steiner

Keywords: Romantic Drama, WWII

Adaptation of Leon Uris's experiences as a Marine during World War II, following a group of recruits from boot camp to battle in the Pacific. But despite the title, Battle Cry emerges as an overwrought, melodramatic soap opera featuring a parade of stereotypes, with perhaps 10 minutes of battle scenes. Produced in the aftermath of the success of From Here to Eternity (1953). Received an Oscar nomination for Best Dramatic Score.
