Film adaptation of the DC Comics franchise of the same name tells the story of how one humble test pilot becomes a superhero after he is granted a ring containing extraterrestrial powers.

In a universe patrolled by an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, one such corpsman -- named Abin Sur -- is nearly killed after the evil Parallax escapes from prison. Mortally wounded and unable to continue in his line of work, Sur crash-lands on Earth and commands his extraterrestrial ring of power to divine a successor, ultimately settling on test pilot Hal Jordan and kicking off a series of events to craft the turbocharged crime-fighting superhero viewers know today.
