Apple Annie, a New York institution, is essentially a bag lady on the street selling apples to sustain herself; her apples bring good luck to Dave the Dude, an up-and-coming mobster. Over the years she has misled her overseas daughter Louise into thinking Annie is a member of high society. But now Louise is getting married to a real-life Spanish Count and the couple intend to visit. Problem! Received 3 Oscar nominations including Best Supporting Actor. Remake of Lady for a Day (1933) also by Frank Capra.
