Peter Finch is an anchorman on UBS, a fourth major network alongside NBC and the others; mentally, he is not quite holding it together. During the evening broadcast, he announces his impending suicide, to be broadcast live. UBS responds by giving him a variety-show forum for his incomprehensible ravings. But Finch continues to spin out of control. Won Oscars for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Screenplay; received nominations for 6 others including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
