Two twelve-year-olds hopelessly smitten with each other run away together from their New England surroundings, causing a search party to assemble and attempt to find them.

Sam Shakusky and Suzy Bishop, two children living in 1965-era New England, find their year-long pen pal friendship coming to a real-life head when their paths cross during Sam's participation in a "Khaki Scout" summer camp on the island Suzy lives on. Deeply in love with each other after sharing a year's worth of correspondence with each other, the two make a secret pact to run off together, leading the adults in the area on a dramatic and humorous wild goose chase after they go missing. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
