A near-future vampire apocalypse impacting nearly all of humanity forces the few remaining unaffected mortals to work to save themselves.

A plague in the year 2019 turns nearly every human on Earth into a vampire, leading to a particularly frightening situation in which vampires starved for mortal blood required to sustain themselves begin mutating into wild creatures determined to go after any living animal they can fin. Vampire pharmaceutical employee Edward Dalton is charged with the unenviable task of creating an artificial blood substance to satisfy the world's growing needs, working with the few remaining mortal humans -- a group he considers himself sympathetic towards -- as he strives towards his goal.
