ABSTRACT
Yoshimi, a mother with a history of mental illness, wins sole custody of young daughter Ikuko following a protracted divorce from her abusive husband, moving to a cramped apartment leaving much to be desired in an attempt to make a new life for herself as a single parent. The flat's dilapidated condition quickly proves to be the least of mother and daughter's worries as strange water stains give way to the spooky yellow-clad ghost of a pint-sized ex-tenant, determined to stop Yoshimi and Ikuko from falling victim to the same fate as her even if it costs them their sanity. Remade for American audiences as Dark Water (2005).
