Burt Reynolds is The Bandit, hired to deliver a truckload of Coors beer from Texas to Georgia in under 28 hours. If successful he will receive $80,000 (greater than the value of beer, so this is more of a wager). Determine to stop him is Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice, "Smokey." Received an Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing. Spawned two sequels, one of them particularly awful.
