The Sum of All Fears (29-May-2002)

Director: Phil Alden Robinson

Writers: Paul Attanasio; Daniel Pyne

From novel: The Sum of All Fears by Tom Clancy

Music by: Jerry Goldsmith

Producer: Mace Neufeld

Keywords: Action/Thriller, Nuclear War, POTUS, Loose Nukes, Explosions

Neo-Nazis try to disrupt Russian-American relations by scavenging a nuclear bomb left over from the Yom Kippur War and detonating it at the Super Bowl in Baltimore, attended by U.S. President Fowler. Neophyte CIA historian Jack Ryan suggests that parties other than the obvious suspect, Russian President Nemerov, are responsible. Affleck is miscast and depicted possessing improbable 007-level talents; Fears is discontinuous with the timeline presented by the previous Jack Ryan films as it should be set in the early 1970s. Nevertheless an enjoyable action/thriller despite the deep flaws.
