Silver-screen adaptation of a comic book franchise follows a bounty hunter as he is dispatched by the American government to pacify a dangerous terrorist.

Jonah Hex, a Confederate cavalryman during the Civil War, is forced to watch his family's execution and left to die on a cross after defying commanding officer Quentin Turnbull's orders to burn down a hospital. Revived by Native Americans who inadvertently imbue him with the ability to communicate with the dead, a now-vengeful Jonah decides to become a bounty hunter, putting his skills to the test when he is hired by the American government to stop a since-defeated Turnbull from unleashing a devastating terrorist attack against the United States on Independence Day.
