An unhappily married discount store clerk becomes pregnant by a coworker believing himself to be his generation's Holden Caulfield.

Justine Last, discount store clerk entering the third decade of her life, is mired in an unhappy existence with a dead-end job and a marriage to an infertile man. Desperate to inject some intrigue into her moribund way of living, Justine entertains a romance with Tom "Holden" Worther, a troubled coworker believing himself to be the reincarnation of Holden Caulfield who takes her down a tragic road when he impregnates her and steals money for them to run away with.
