Parcels in this area were sold in a sale of lands formerly owned by the Creek Nation, 1821. Fulton County was created in 1853, of which Sandy Springs is a part. With a population exceeding 85,000 the city remains unincorporated, but a movement to incorporate has been active since 1990.
