The San Jose Mercury News

NEWSPAPER

Founded 1851 as the San Jose Visitor, a morning paper. In 1942 it acquired the San Jose News, which was founded in 1883, and operated it as an evening paper. By 1983 it had folded the two together as The San Jose Mercury News. Long owned by Knight-Ridder, it was snapped up by MediaNews Group in 2006.
