NEWSPAPER

Started as the weekly paper West Hillsborough Times in Dunedin, FL, on 25 July 1884. After a pair of acquisitions, it moved to St. Petersburg in 1892, changing its name to St. Petersburg Times. Began being published semiweekly in 1907, then six-days-a-week in 1912, and finally daily in 1924. Winner of eight Pulitzer Prizes since 1964, and named one of the ten best newspapers in America by Time in 1984. Unique among American big-city newspapers, the St. Petersburg Times is operated as a non-profit, owned by The Poynter Institute, a journalism school and resource.
