ORGANIZATION

Founded as Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by Nancy Goodman Brinker in 1982, in honor of her sister, Susan Goodman Komen, who had died of breast cancer two years earlier, at the age of 36. Organizes "Race for the Cure" 5k footraces in over 100 cities to raise money for breast cancer research. Also a key organizer of "pink" packaging to raise awareness of breast cancer, for which manufacturers pledge a sliver of the profits to Komen. Renamed Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 2007.
