Mark Eitzel

Born: 30-Jan-1959
Birthplace: Walnut Creek, CA

Gender: Male
Race or Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Musician

Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Frontman for American Music Club

Mark Eitzel formed American Music Club in 1983 after moving from Columbus to San Francisco. The band underwent numerous line-up changes throught its lifetime, eliciting constant praise from music critics but achieving only marginal commercial success. AMC's live performances gained notoriety through Eitzel's volatile relationship to his audience and his public confrontations with his alcohol problem -- a struggle that has inspired much of his writing.

In 1995 AMC finally disbanded and Eitzel continued with a solo career that had begun in 1991 with the release of Songs of Love. His work continues to attract only a limited cult following, but many more widely-known performers can be numbered among his fans.
