Jesse Bradford's first job, while he was still wearing diapers, was a TV commercial for Q-Tips. He later faced the challenging role of "infant" on the soap opera Guiding Light. As a child actor, Bradford appeared in big-budget films like Steve Martin's My Blue Heaven and Harrison Ford's Presumed Innocent, and played the kid brother of a 12-year-old psychopath in The Boy Who Cried Bitch. In 1993, 14-year-old Bradford was acclaimed as the lead in Steven Soderbergh's King of the Hill, with Jeroen Krabbé, Spalding Gray, and a young Adrien Brody. He was Balthasar in the Leonardo DiCaprio-Claire Danes Romeo + Juliet, and between Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku, he had the nominal male lead in the bouncy cheerleaders' drama Bring It On. In Clockstoppers, Bradford controlled the flow of time.
