Brian Boru was the most famous monarch Ireland produced. He was also the progenitor of the O'Brian clan whose motto "Lamh Laidir An Uachdar" means "The strong hand uppermost" in Gaelic. The harp on a can of Guinness, long a symbol of Irish unity (the harp not the beer) is called the Brian Boru harp.
