AKA Marshall Walter Sylwestrzak
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Stage hypnotist, self-help guru
After a humiliating 1986 appearance on the David Letterman Show, "The World's Fastest Hypnotist" landed fairly regular gigs performing in Las Vegas casinos. Known for an act with over-the-top staging and visual effects, Sylver's energetic demeanor resembles that of a hyperactive, egomaniacal freak with hair plugs.
Marshall Sylver also maintains a side business as a motivational speaker and self-help guru, repackaging his old hypnosis shtick as a technique he has termed "subconscious reprogramming". For a while in the mid-90s, Sylver hawked this on his own late-night infomercial.
Financially speaking, things started to go wrong somewhere around the time the Venetian sued him in 2001 for a bounced check in the amount of $201,000. Shortly thereafter Sylver wound up in court on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. The state of Nevada claimed he had bilked nine of his seminar attendees out of thousands of dollars, by refusing to honor his money-back guarantee.
