Kent Hovind is an evangelist, tax protester, and a leader among "Young Earth activists" who dispute and largely misunderstand the theory of evolution. In the spirit of James Randi, Hovind offers a running $250,000 prize for anyone able to "Prove beyond reasonable doubt that the process of evolution is the only possible way the observed phenomena could have come into existence". His scientific credentials are nil — an MA and PhD in Christian Education from Patriot Bible University, a correspondence school widely considered to be a Christian diploma mill. He is a close associate of cartoonist Jack Chick, and helped edit several of Chick's anti-evolution tracts, including Big Daddy, In the Beginning, and Primal Man?.

He operated a tiny theme park in Pensacola, Florida, called Dinosaur Adventure Land, which purported to be "where dinosaurs and the Bible meet" and was advertised with the motto, "Evolution: What a Dumb Idea!" He has been convicted on local charges regarding years of refusal to operate his business under zoning ordinances, and on dozens of federal charges related to tax evasion and criminal business conduct, including transactions intentionally structured to avoid reporting requirements. Dinosaur Adventure Land was seized and closed in 2009, though Hovind's supporters hope to re-open the park when he is released from a federal prison in Atlanta, where he has been serving a ten-year prison sentence since 2007.
