In 1989, Kari Tupper publicly accused Senator Adams in The Seattle Times of having dosed her with a date-rape drug, stripped her naked, and groped her in March 1987. In March 1992, seven other women had contacted the paper with anonymous allegations of sexual misconduct at the hands of Adams. The revelations forced Adams to quit his 1992 re-election campaign, citing "hypothetical comments by hypothetical people."
