Executive summary: Capt. John Anderson on Triangle

Born in Maharashtra to a British cavalryman, Michael Gregson spent his youth in England and Canada, later joining the Merchant Navy. In the late 1940s he tried his hand at acting, obtaining only small theatrical parts. It took half a dozen years before a major part came his way, when Peter Hall of the Oxford Playhouse cast him in Man About the House. In 1954, he signed a 7-year contract with the Rank Organization, which made him choose a new name as they already had a Gregson on contract. With Rank he made twenty films, but he was not happy with the work he was given towards the end, and in 1961 he signed a nonexclusive two-year contract with Columbia Pictures. But in the years he was with Columbia -- two extended to four -- they only put him in two films. Craig has appeared on stage many times, most often in Shakespeare. Notable film roles are the 1960 The Angry Silence, which he co-wrote, a 1961 adaptation of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island where he played the lead role of Capt. Cyrus Harding, and 1966's Modesty Blaise, from the comic strip of the same name.
