Played with Billy Fury's The Blue Flames in 1961-66, strong on the London scene at that time. They scored two #1 hits in the UK, Yeh Yeh in 1964 and Get Away in 1966. He broke up the band to try a solo career, yielding the Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde, a #1 hit in the UK in 1967, but otherwise with very limited success. He reformed the band in 1973 but by then it was a shadow of what it once was.
