At 14, Fabio began modeling for the Italian edition of Vogue and other magazines. After a mandatory two-year stint in the Italian army, he moved to New York City, where he is said to have walked into the elite Ford modeling agency without an appointment, and walked out with a contract. Fabio's face and form graced the covers of numerous romance novels in the 1990s, and he even signed on to Avon books as a writer in 1992, and had the honor of being their only male novelist to allegedly write under his own name. He is the author of Champion, Rogue, Pirate, Dangerous, and Wild, among other titles. He has recorded a compilation album called Fabio After Dark, which included soliloquies on his philosophy of love, and he is trying to sell a reality show where he teaches men how to really romance women.
Fabio has also had his share of misadventures. His business manager sued him for breach of contract (settled out of court) and a Canadian actress sued when his Great Dane jumped up as she was leaning over, knocking out her front teeth. There was also the famous picture of Fabio on at a publicity event, riding a roller coaster and being hit by a 15 pound goose that was flying by. The goose did not survive.
