Esther Johnson married Harry Snyder in 1948, the same year that they opened the first In-N-Out Burger in Baldwin Park, California. In the company's early years she peeled potatoes, cut onions, and keep the books, and in later years she served as Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. After the death of her husband and both their sons, she became President of the company in 1999, and held that position until her death in 2006. The chain presently has more than 200 restaurants in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah.
