Anglo-Dutch Wars

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Series of wars fought over the political and commercial relations of the Netherlands with England and France. In Britain the term "Dutch Wars" mostly refers to two purely naval wars of 1652-53 and 1665-67 and to the Anglo-Dutch or naval part of the war that began in 1672. But this Third Anglo-Dutch War was a piece of a much wider struggle, the Franco-Dutch War, encompassing 1672–78.

  • First Dutch War, fought 1652-53
  • Second Anglo-Dutch War, fought 1665-67
  • Third Anglo-Dutch War, fought 1672-74
  • Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, fought 1780-84
