Financial services and credit. Spun off from Sears Roebuck in 1993 with a 20% IPO, the remaining 80% given to existing Sears shareholders. Sears had acquired Dean Witter Reynolds in 1981, and created the Discover credit card in 1985. Dean Witter Discover merged with Morgan Stanley in 1997.
