Sequoia Voting Systems

COMPANY

Manufacturer of electronic voting systems. Acquired in 2005 by Smartmatic, a Delaware corporation largely controlled by its Venezualan founder and CEO, Antonio Mugica.

After serious errors with their machines were demonstrated in five New Jersey counties during the 2007 Presidential Primary elections, Sequoia threatened to sue one of those counties -- Union -- if it permitted respected security researcher Ed Felten to examine their machines. Sequoia called its voting software a "trade secret" and any examination "non-compliant analysis."
