First Union National Bank

Formed 1958 by the merger of Union National Bank and First National Bank and Trust Company of Asheville. It acquired Philadelphia-based CoreStates Financial in 1998. First Union merged into Wachovia in 2001, the combined entity retaining the Wachovia name.
